The Prevention Department is responsible for planning and administration of Auxiliary programs to support the Coast Guard's Prevention Directorate's Programs and other legacy Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Programs.

This support includes, but not limited to, support and augment the US Coast Guard's Prevention Directorate.  This support which includes, but is not limited to, marine environmental response assistance, port safety and security inspections, commercial vessel safety and security inspections (UPV, UTV, CFVE and other foreign and domestic vessels), container inspection assistance, mariner licensing/documentation/course audits, area contingency planning, waterways management, America's Waterway Watch, MISLE Support, environmental education and navigation systems.
